|Scope & Content||
Bill for groceries from A.H. Brandt, Fancy Groceries, Etc., 532 Washington St., Hoboken, July 7(?), 1905. Printed billhead, 4-1/4" wide x 8-1/2" high. Staple present below center right
A pre-printed form advertising Washburn-Crosby's Gold Medal Flour with flour sack (a bag) depicted along with other text; printed in blue and gold. Brandt's imprint was an ink stamp.
Itemized food and domestic items (wood?) with prices totaled $3.00 and was sold to a Mrs. Lohr, 316 Grand St. See notes.
|Notes||While not so marked, the folds, staple and nature of the item makes it likely that this receipt was submitted for reimbursement to the Overseer of the Poor, Hoboken. It was characteristic of other receipts seen in this genre where the person receiving the charity was allowed to spend up to three dollars for food. The bill would have been attached to a form (probably with other ones from the same month) and sent to the Overseer.|
