Object Name Ticket, Transportation

Credit Museum Collections.
Scope & Content Ticket: Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad, $15.00 Show Scrip Ticket. Issued to Cole Brothers, Circus. New York City, April 28, 1942; good for travel through Sept. 30, 1942.

Issued for use by travel by advertising agent or bill poster for Cole Bros., Circus. The person would present it to the conductor to have the value of the proper fare detached from the ticket.

Printed cardstock cover folio with black cambric hinge, 2-3/4" wide x 5-3/8" high, top opening. With printed scrip, 2-3/8" wide x 6 feet, 11" long strip, fan-folded to 4-3/4" long (or high as tipped-in). See notes for text.

The scrip was printed in a denomination of cents and marked with divisions at the dollar and five cent divisions (e.g. $9.15.) The remaining scrip starts at $8.75, thus the first $6.25 was used for travel and thus not present as it was taken by conductors. The unused remainder is present to the $15.00 value. While 6'-11" of the scrip remains, the full length of the original accordion folded strip would have been about 10 feet long.

Seen by the pre-printed column for dates on the front cover, this ticket form was originally created in 1933 for use through 1940.
