Scope & Content Souvenir theater programs printed on silk cloth from the Gayety Theatre, Washington and Tenth Streets, Hoboken, for February 1914. (Street address: 1013-1019 Washington Street - the former Quartett Club.)

Programs were for a stock theatrical company, The Gayety Players, performing at the theater. Each one is a 5" wide ribbon, color varies along with height due to frayed edges, ca. 7-1/2 to 8" high. Printed in black (one side only) with dates, cast of characters and performers with each featuring a photo of a member of the stock company.

These programs were collected by Rose Beck who completed high school in Hoboken about 1914 as stated by a grandson, donor Ed Jaxel.

List below has starting date, play title and performer featured in photo on the program. (See notes for transcribed text.)

Program 1. Week Beginning Monday Evening, Feb. 2nd, 1914; Graustark; Enid May Jackson. Gold silk.

Program 2: Week Beginning Monday Evening, Feb. 9th, 1914; The Traveling Salesman; Lawrence Dunbar. Purple silk.

Program 3: Week Beginning Monday Evening, Feb. 16th, 1914: Dora Thorne; Miss Cecil Fay. Salmon pink silk.

Program 4. Week Beginning Monday, February 23rd, 1914; The House of Lies by John P. Ritter; Julian Noa. Pastel blue silk.

Curiously, there are minor differences from week to week in their text besides the obvious ones of cast.

Items 2 and 3 carry the maker's name: American Flag Company, New York and Chicago.

Note: this was Enid May Jackson's second season in the stock company. She is known to have had a third season with them that started on Sept. 2, 1914.
