Postcard: Artist's depiction of woman waving Stevens pennant and holding lacrosse stick. Published 1906 by M. Machol, 512 Washington St., Hoboken. Postmarked Feb. 29, 1908, Ashville, Pa.
Color lithographed card, 3-7/16" wide x 5-1/2" high; undivided back.
Imprinted on front at bottom: Copyrighted and Published 1906 by M. Machol, 512 Washington St., Hoboken, N.J.
Although Stevens Institute of Technology name is only seen as "Stevens" on the pennant and referred by the 'S' on here sweater, a local publisher would definitely establish this as for the Hoboken college. It should be noted that the school then was male only as well as the lacrosse team.
Published when postcards were only allowed to have undivided backs (1901-1907), this postcard was apparently still mailable in 1908 (leap day.)
Addressed to a Miss Claire Stephens, Gallitzin, Pa. from Anna
Note the Ashville cancellation postmark was at 4PM on Feb. 29th and a received stamp is present for Gallitzin for 5PM on the same date.
