Caption: Washington St., Hoboken in 1901 was cobblestone, rutted artery. At left is the old Jersey Observer newspaper building. Next to it with the peaked roof was the Hoboken Bank for Savings, with City Hall in the center of the next block. At right, stood homes which were later torn down and the Fabian Theater built, which in turn was torn down in the last decade and the Shop Rite supermarket building erected.
