Mail addressed to residents at 1110 Washington Street, Hoboken, late 1934. Three items, various sizes and formats.
Two items were sent to Mr. [James ] Allen or Anna K. Allen (who was the owner of 1110 Washington St.; she was the landlord for Schnackenberg's Luncheonette which occupied the ground floor and basement) and one item was sent to a resident of the building, Mrs. G.F. Baker. (See notes about provenance.)
Examples of typical correspondence in domestic life.
1: Sent to Mrs. A. Allen; direct mail solicitation offering real estate building plots at Three Lakes Resorts, New Jersey. No date or postmark, but apparently late 1934. The copy features this offer as a special one celebrating the Newark company's 8th anniversary; it was not stated where this "Gentile community with restricted homes" was located, but it does mention twenty miles of roads plus access to sailing, boating, hunting and fishing.
2: Sent to Mr. Allen; bill from L. & G. Laikin, 526 Washington Street, Hoboken, Oct. 9, 1934; for removal dining room chandelier to shop; repaired and installed same. 1.50. Postmarked Oct. 16, 1934.
3. Sent to Mrs. G.F. Baker; religious solicitation packet for charitable donations; from Monastery Precious Blood, 11105 100th Ave., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Christmas 1934; eight enclosures. No postmarked date.

Five pieces of 1934 mail found in 2013 at 1110 Washington St. in a bricked-up area near entrance to upper floors during replacement of stonework. This replacement was done when Schnackenberg's Luncheonette was renovated in 2013 which included replacement of the ground floor facade and the deteriorated decorative stonework around the entry to upper floors.
