Scope & Content My Favorite Cocomalt Recipes. Compiled by Elsie Stark, Director, Home Economics Department, R.B. Davis Company, Hoboken, N.J. No date, circa 1929-1931. Booklet, 5-1/4" wide x 7-3/4" high, 16 pp. including covers.

Davis listed their main product offerings on page [2]: "Manufacturers of Davis Baking Powder, Davis Dry Yeast Baking Powder, Cut-Rite Waxed Paper and Cocomalt. Cocomalt is sold at all groceries and leading drug stores. It comes in the 1/2 pound, the 1 pound and the economical 3 pound family size."

Cut-Rite Waxed Paper helps to date this item. It was invented in Hoboken by a Roswell Rausch (he did not invent wax paper - see notes) in 1927, who owned a paper machine company. Apparently Davis took on distribution and sale of the product for several years (at least until 1940), but it did not always appear on its product lists. (By later 1930s advertisements are seen for it listing the Automatic Paper Machinery Co., Hoboken, as the manufacturer and distributor.)

Also helping to date this recipe book is a patent number on page [15] (see notes for text) for the licensed formula on which Cocomalt was based. It was was granted on August 14, 1928.
Notes Rausch did not invent wax paper, but a method of putting it on small tubes and in a package with a cutting edge making it easy to tear and thus convenient for use. It became the dominant brand in this product line.
