|Scope & Content||
Baker's Coconut. Southern Style. Label for a 1/4 pound can. Manufactured by Franklin Baker Division of General Foods Corporation, Hoboken, N.J. No date, circa 1938-1943. Paper, full color, 3-5/8" high x 8" wide. (Removed at some earlier time from a food can.)
Dating is estimated from several points: product name is in two lines above the center image of a coconut (this style was used in the late 1930s); the U.S. patent number from 1926 (1,612,087) would have expired in 1943; and the "Seven Minute Frosting Recipe" is at least from 1930.
Baker's Phillipines coconut facility was destroyed in World War II and the product did not return until 1948.
