The artists' (Charles R. Parsons and Lyman Atwater) bird's-eye view is looking northeast - east and focuses on New York (Manhattan) with Hoboken and Jersey City at the bottom. It is not a map, and while some license is always taken in the creation of such views especially with scale, it does establish some elements in a useful way.

Text in the bottom border indicates many points of interest. For Hoboken, all points are along the waterfront (left to right):
Castle Point;
Stevens Mansion [Stevens Castle];
Stevens University [Stevens Institute of Technology];
Nth [North] German Lloyd Line;
Hamburgh [Hamburg-America or American Line];
Bremen Line;
D.L. & W. R.R. Depot [Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad terminal]

Hoboken docks and piers with many sailing vessels (plus some steamships are seen on the North or Hudson River) are seen along with steam-powered ferryboats and coastal steamers.

The recent Brooklyn Bridge is seen which was a wonder of its age.
