Hoboken, N.J. March 30th , 1885
To the Honorable the Board of Water Commissioners
Repeated complaints have been made to me regarding the insufficient water supply furnished by the Hackensack Water Co. I have not communicated with your Honorable Body before, as I communicated with Mr Chs [Charles] Brush, but as matters instead of improving grow worse, I am forced to ask you to take action in the matter.
I shall only, as an instance relate my personal experience. The tenants in the fourth flats of my buildings, on River & Sixth Sts. have during the winter been without water during certain hours of the day, and this morning one of my tenants informs me that no water could be drawn at 8 o'clock A.M. The present tenants will move on May 1st principally on this account, and although I have had applications from parties willing to rent, the knowledge of the trouble with the water deters them. It is certainly a violation of the agreement entered into by the City and the Water Company. Registrar Michael Murphy whose attention I called to the trouble has done his utmost to insure a constant supply and not withstanding the repeated promises of the company's representative, the supply has not increased in the least.
I respectfully request your Honorable Body to give this prompt and energetic attention, forcing the Company to fulfill the terms of their contract as they have agreed to give us, a full and wholesome supply of water.
Communication from HL Timken Mayor referring to low pressure of the water. Presented April 30/85
Motion received and placed on file
