Sepia-tone group photo of men, some in sailor dress, sleeping at tables, on tables, in chairs and on the floor in a lounge at the Hoboken YMCA, Hoboken, no date, ca. 1918-21. 8" x 10" wide print. Photographer's blind emboss at lower right. Photographer's ink stamped telephone number on reverse otherwise blank. None of the individuals are identified.
Note the stack of phonograph records on the center table. Although it seems improbable for them to be sleeping in the daytime with the sunlight coming through the windows, the window at the center has the bottom sash fully open indicating that the weather was warm enough for it to be open. The roller shades are a style that raise from the bottom, so blocking out the light would not allow air into the room.
