Favorite Wyteface 50 foot steel tape, model W7382P, made by Keuffel & Esser Company, New York & Hoboken, N.J., issued circa 1945-1954. Steel tape, 3/8" wide, Wyteface (brand name) finish (black markings on white background); metal ring end; steel case, 3-7/8" diameter, covered in black leather-grained material ("leatherite"); manufacturer's plate plus chrome fittings including folding crank. With: original two-piece box with printed label on end of box lid.
It does not have a model number on it. Since product model number does not appear on item, it was determined from catalogues. Catalogue from 1949 called for black covering as found on this item and 1954 catalog states this model had a burgundy red cover. The "Favorite" line seems to have appeared after World War II and the one here with a black cover is probably from ca. 1948-1954.
Also on the name plate are several patent numbers as well as design patent number. The latest patent, 2,089,209 was from 1937 and the design patent, 94,479, was from 1935. This item is much later than those dates.
K&E main offices and factory were in Hoboken during the period when this item was manufactured.
