Printed metal container: Keuffel & Esser Co. Stake Tacks., 100, 3/4 in. (New York and Hoboken), no date, circa 1908-1920. Printed metal box with hinged lid, 2-5/8" wide x 1-3/4" deep x 1/2" high. Red ground with black printing, top and bottom. Empty; original contents not present.
Dated from "Montreal" branch which was established in 1908. No stock number found on item, but corresponds to product number 6495 in 35th edition catalogue which was this style tack in the quantity of 100. Style of typography, etc., suggests earlier date than later, but is not an absolute characteristic to use in dating it.
As noted on the top of the tin: "These tacks have an indentation in the head to guide the plumb bob." Used by surveyors, not by draftsmen.
Although not stated, K&E main office and factories were in Hoboken during the period this item was made.
